Job Post: Shift Boss X 2

Zululand Anthracite Colliery would like to recruit two Shift Bosses to be based at the Maye –B section.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Grade 12 certificate

  • Blasting Certificate Fiery Mines

  • Flameproof and Gas Testing Certificate

  • Driver’s license

  • Competent “A” Certificate

  • Computer Knowledge

  • Valid first aid certificate

  • At least 5 years mining experience with exposure to stonework, dykes, faults, low seam, conventional drill and blast, development and stooping, continuous miner development and stooping Code EB driver license.

  • Advantageous:

  • Mining Degree

  • Mining National Diploma

  • Supervisory Development Certificate.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To do daily inspections of the working areas to ensure compliance to procedures and health and safety act.

  • To ensure that mining operations run smoothly so that employees produce the required amount of coal per shift to meet production targets.

  • To analyses work to be done and work in progress, risk assessment, data and statistics, job profiles in the mining section, SPI’s, COP’s Managerial instructions and Procedures including equipment and machinery.

  • To plan coordinate and control a sequence of events to complement each other in achieving the set goals.

  • To organize and allocate resources for accomplishing a task in a given time frame.

  • To motivate people to take ownership of their respective tasks in order to achieve the organization objectives.

  • Coaching employees to accomplish tasks according to the required standards.

  • Counseling and disciplining employees deviating from company policies.

  • Giving regular feedback to mine overseer on progress and problems encountered during process

  • Safety: Ensure compliance to all safety rules and regulations, ensure that daily risk assessments/ PTOs are done & partake in incident /accident investigations.

  • Operations: Ensure that all the standards and procedures are compiled to (special instructions), Partake in daily planning /review and action plan. Ensure daily production targets of own section are met, ensure that material/equipment are available and provides technical advice to crew.

  • Cutting Sequence: Ensure that cutting sequences are up to SOP’s and are adhered.

  • People Management: Ensure that the section is staffed, discipline is managed and there is motivated team to meet the target.

  • Cost: Section cost management

  • End of shift: Complete logbook, provide operational feedback to MO, ensure shift clearance of dedicated people is done daily and from time to time has to clear the whole shaft.

  • Experience in stonework conveyors, CM mining methods, stooping, Back bye and Cost Control

  • Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • SPI and COP

  • Law requirements

  • Knowledge of Underground Machinery and Mining of Coal

  • Plan Reading

  • Leadership Qualities

SKILLS:

  • Blasting

  • First Aid

  • Ability to motivate and communicate effectively

  • Ability to work under pressure Communicating skills including (English and Zulu), presentation and business writing.
